What kind of policy do I need?
Different policy types are available depending on the type of home you own or rent. We have homeowners (HO3 and HO8), condo owners (HO6), and renters' (HO4) policies available.
How much home owners insurance do I need?
You will need enough insurance to cover the cost of rebuilding your home at current construction costs. Market value does not play a part in a home's cost to rebuild under a worst case scenario. Universal Direct calculates property and building construction information such as square footage, number of bathrooms etc. from multiple databases and then uses an advanced replacement cost estimator to determine the appropriate amount of insurance needed for your property.
What is a replacement cost estimate?
A replacement cost estimate is used by insurance professionals to determine a property's cost to rebuild. Using information such as square footage, number of bathrooms, etc. will allow an insurance professional to adequately quote your property.
Are there discounts available?
Yes! We offer the following discounts. Learn more
  • Burglar alarms
  • Fire alarms

Who is covered under the policy?
People living on the property including your spouse, relatives and any persons under the age of 21 that are in the care of yourself, spouse or relative are automatically insured under our policies. Other people living on the property can be added as well.
Can I view my policy online?
Your policy documents can be accessed at any time. Once you purchase a policy, we will create an online account for you so you can view policy documents, notifications, make payments and file claims online. You will receive an email containing a link which will allow you to activate your account and choose a password.
How do I cancel my policy?
You may cancel a policy at any time. Please let us know in writing the date the cancellation is to take effect.
How do I switch to Universal from my current insurance company?
If you currently have insurance coverage elsewhere, you may compare our quote with your current coverage. Obtain a copy of your current declarations page and review the coverage limits, deductibles, optional endorsements and applicable discounts. Should you decide to purchase a policy through Universal Direct, please contact your insurance professional immediately to inform them you have placed your policy elsewhere in order to proceed with the cancellation process of your current policy.
How do I file a claim?
Claims may be filed online for your convenience. Claims may also be filed by contacting the company directly at 1(800) 218-3206.
Are there payment plans available?
Yes, besides paying your premium for the year in full, you’ll have the opportunity to select a semi-annual payment plan which splits the premium into two payments and a quarterly payment plan that allows you to divide the premium into four payments. The breakdown of how much you would pay and when will be shown on the screen next to each option. If you currently pay your home insurance by adding it on to your existing monthly (or bi-weekly) mortgage payments, you’ll have the option to continue doing that as well.
How can I pay my bill?
Payments can be made one of three ways:
  • Pay online through our secure website.
  • Call one of our dedicated customer service representatives at 1 (866) 926-2217 and provide them with an account and routing number from a checking account.
